Bill Lutkus

My name is Bill Lutkus from Watertown Connecticut where my wife Barbara and I have lived for the last 40 years. My educational background is in mechanical engineering, a field I have dedicated over four decades to. Alongside my engineering work, I am the proprietor of Quality Signs, specializing in crafting commercial signs for local businesses. Whether it's hand-carved gold leaf signs or truck lettering, I derive immense satisfaction from the creative aspects of the sign business, particularly the artistic elements involved. While largely self-taught, I have also taken adult education art classes to refine my skills. My preferred medium is acrylic, although I occasionally dabble in watercolors to explore new techniques. My paintings are characterized by intricate detail, leaving little to the viewer's imagination. I aim to portray subjects in their natural settings, capturing elements of the environment like decaying tree trunks, snow-laden pine branches, vibrant autumn foliage, or the elegant white birch. These contextual details serve to enrich my portraits of birds native to New England, showcasing my commitment to realism and enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal of my artwork. In addition to painting, I also have a passion for wood carving, particularly focusing on creating lifelike representations of birds. Although time constraints have limited my wood carving pursuits, it remains a cherished creative outlet.
